A flashing orange light on your Billi tap indicates a filter change is due. Typically, the light turns solid orange after about 2 weeks, signalling the filter is overdue. If not resolved, the unit will eventually stop dispensing water to prevent the risk of consuming water from an old filter. When a new Billi filter is installed, the unit will ‘reset’ and turn the orange light off.
If you’ve just replaced the filter and the orange light remains on, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Restart the Unit

  • Turn the unit off at the wall for 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • If the orange light is still on, move to the next step.

Step 2: Reinstall the Filter

  1. Turn off the water supply to the unit.
  2. Press and hold the cold lever for 5 seconds to release water pressure.
  3. Place a cloth beneath the filter and remove it.
  4. Reinstall the new filter. After you swing it into place, ensure it is completely vertical and pull it down firmly so the unit can detect the chip in the filter.
  5. Turn the water supply back on. If the orange light is still on, move to the next step.

Step 3: Address Software Glitch

Some Billi units occasionally experience a software glitch that prevents them from detecting new filters. For example, you may have replaced filters without any issues in the past, but at some point, the unit may fail to detect a new filter. This issue can typically be resolved by having the unit’s software re-installed by the Billi service team.

If the orange light is still on (flashing or solid):

  • Book a service call with Billi to have the unit’s software updated:

  • Inform Billi that you have only just installed the new filter, so they don’t replace it and on-charge you.
  • Please note that there may still be a cost if the Billi tap is out of warranty.
